The Illuminate Volunteer Conference

April 20, 2011

2010 was the first year I attended The Orange Conference.  One of the new friends I made was Kenny Conley.  Many of you may already be familiar with Kenny as he writes for the wildly popular blog, Children’s Ministry Online.  Kenny is the Next Generation Pastor Gateway Community Church in Austin, Texas.  Kenny has dedicated his entire life toward reaching kids for Christ and equipping them for life’s greatest journey. In addition to his passion for kids, Kenny’s heart is to equip and encourage those who pastor and work with kids by sharing ideas, training and giving away “things that have worked for him.”  If you are at Orange next week, look for Kenny.  He is truly one of the nicest people I know.

So back to the story at hand… with the help of the team at Kenny’s home church, last year Kenny launched a new volunteer conference called Illuminate. You can read about the 2010 inaugural conference herehere and here. Essentially, Kenny’s idea was to create an incredible experience to equip and inspire kidmin volunteers at Gateway Community Church and other surrounding churches.  Kenny explains:

“Many times I’ve walked out of an incredible breakout at a national conference and said,’Wow! I wish all my volunteers had experienced that!’  Unfortunately, most churches can’t provide a national conference experience for all the volunteers… unless that church brought the national conference to their volunteers. That’s the idea behind Illuminate.”

Last year’s Illuminate Conference went so well that Kenny is doing it again and taking it on the road.  I’m very excited to be participating in the 2011 Illuminate Conference and teaching a breakout on special needs inclusion.  It is a great honor to be teaching with the following kidmin leaders:

Jim Wideman
Sam Luce
Jonathan Cliff
Gina McClain
Dan Scott
Matt McKee
Amy Fenton Lee
Michael Chanley

If you live within a two-hour radius of either of these cities, please consider joining me:
