CMX 2011 Special Needs Track 7/7/11

June 14, 2011

I’m busy this week planning for the July 7th Children’s Ministry Expo.  I am so excited about this upcoming gathering for several reasons:

#1 The lineup of special needs/children’s ministry experts is incredible

Meaghan Wall, Special Needs Coordinator for Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, TX

Kristy Moser, Pastor of Early Childhood with Crosstown Children’s Ministry at Montgomery Community Church in Cincinnati, OH.

Jolene Philo, respected speaker, writer, and author of the popular book, A Different Dream for my Child.

Dr. Alyssa Barnes, assistant professor at North Georgia College & State University and expert in inclusion, education law and education policy.

and me!

#2  The breakouts are focused on helping churches get started or grow their inclusion efforts.

Getting Started – Special Needs Ministry Checklist

Ministering to the Family Through the Diagnosis

Teaching Techniques & Behavior Management Strategies

Including the Child with Autism

Volunteer Best Practices

Q&A Panel – Your questions Answered

Several of these sessions will be facilitated interviews and interactive, where our team will share what they’ve learned through their research or ministry experience.  The goal is for every participant to leave with concrete and practical ideas they can immediately implement in their respective children’s ministry environments.

#3  The cost is only $25.

That’s right.  $25.  6 breakouts.  5 speakers.  One day.

Our team of speakers are all coming at our own expense because we are passionate about helping churches.  Come meet this inspiring group of special needs cheerleaders!

#4  The exhibitors have as much to offer as the presenters.

In particular, I’m  really excited about the TFH USA ( booth.  They will be doing a demo of their Vecta mobile station that transforms any environment into a multi-sensory environment.

For lodging, the Children’s Ministry Expo has a $99 rate at the Hyatt Regency Downtown (get a roommate to cut the cost!).  The hotel is attached to the convention center and offers a free shuttle to and from the airport.  This is the best bang-for-your-buck opportunity to connect with other special needs ministry leaders and learn!  No, we will not be taping the breakouts…sorry!  Gotta be there in person!

Checkout the CMX 2011 website for more details on the other incredible children’s ministry speakers, participants, and exhibitors.

  1. AND Miss Pattycake will be there, too! 🙂 My family is moving to Cincinnati/Northern KY (from South GA) that week–we’ll be stopping in Lexington to spend a night or two with my grandparents there. I am so hoping to get to stop in. Praying that the moving truck guys will get their act together! If I don’t get to come see you all, please give Miss Pattycake a hug and tell her I said hello! She is a favorite of parents who have kids with special needs (and parents of preschoolers in general).

  2. Kristie – Thanks for this comment. I will look for Miss Pattycake. I can imagine hat Miss Pattycake would be wonderfully popular with all the kids, including those with differences.

Please say “hello” if it works out for you to drop in the expo. I think it is going to be fantastic! – Amy

  3. Amy–turns out we will actually be driving up on the 7th, so Jean (Pattycake) and I are having breakfast on the 8th. If you’d like to join us, send me an e-mail or a tweet (krisyoursis)…blessings!

  4. Kristie – This is great news! If you are meeting in the conference hotel (Hyatt), let me know and I’ll come meet you. I can’t do breakfast b/c I’m heading up a caravan leaving out first thing Friday morning for a long drive back home. If you are at the Expo be sure to find me and introduce yourself. I’m working on the breakouts right now and getting very excited!
